Greenhouse Redevelopment and Integrated Programming

a row of plants growing in buckets inside a greenhouseA Technology Clinic class worked to develop programming for greenhouses on the Bangor Area High School property that had sat empty for several years and make them available to students as a hands-on learning supplement.

In cooperation with teachers at the school, the Lafayette students created an agriculture course elective using the greenhouse that will teach the importance of agriculture, fresh produce, and nutrition through daily activities. The goal is to get students excited and passionate about gardening and agriculture through a variety of projects designed as part of the greenhouse elective curriculum. A final project report was presented Dec. 3 at the high school.

The students were Rachel Barron ’16, Caroline Craver ’15, Kevin Jackson ’16, Clair Hoober ’17, Marian Leech ’17, and Victoria Parsons ’15. Faculty facilitators were Dan Bauer and Lawrence Malinconico.

Geology and the Da Vinci Science Center

Da Vinci Report

A class is developing ideas for interactive displays on the geology of the local region, both inside and outside the physical building.  Da Vinci Science Center, whose mission is “to bring life to science, and science to lives,” tasked the Tech Clinic with coming up with creative ideas to connect the outside world back to the museum with a specific focus on local geology.  The general idea is to develop displays that allow museum visitors to travel back in time and space to learn more about how Pennsylvania’s geology changed and the conditions and environment in which the landscape was crafted. The team presented its mid-project findings Dec. 2 in Van Wickle Hall at Lafayette.

The students are Sinan Dundar ’15, Robyn Henderek ’15, Kaitlin Kinsella ’17, Madison Murray ’16, Anna Wissler ’16, and Sarah Wodruff ’15. Faculty facilitators are Dan Bauer and David Sunderlin.
